Is a Letter of Recommendation required in the Scholarship Application?

If you are asking a teacher for this letter for scholarships, summer programs or college admission, it's best to ask them if you could offer any documents or information, including a resume (and/or the Senior Profile perhaps), past papers or projects which might assist them in the process. Be sure to give the teacher plenty (at least 3 weeks) of advance notice and check with them about the timeline and deadline. Remember to thank them afterwards.

By the way, school counselors only write letters for senior students to apply to private universities/colleges during the college admission process and at no other time. This is due to the counselors' workload and also to avoid the appearance of bias to be fair to all students.
