Social/Emotional Counseling

Understanding that students have experiences beyond school, the WHS counseling staff recognizes the need to address personal concerns for our students as they arise.

We encourage our students to reach out to their counselor to discuss any matter.

Some common examples:

  • Students in need of a safe space to discuss social, emotional, and mental health concerns
  • Social conflict
  • Personal or family challenges
  • Referral to outside resources (e.g. long-term therapy)
  • Self-regulation and emotional skill building

CONFIDENTIALITY

Our goal as counselors is to make sure that we create a safe environment, build rapport, and establish trust with our students. Therefore, we must respect the student's privacy so that they are free to explore issues, feelings and behaviors. Most information that is shared with a counselor is protected by confidentiality. However, in order to ensure the safety of our students - first and foremost, there are topics in which information that is shared cannot be considered confidential.

  • Harm to self
  • Harm to others (threats to others safety)
  • Knowledge of other's harm
  • Violations on school property
